The NHL has already announced that the 2017 draft class is headlined by the second overall pick in the draft, and that Connor McDavid is likely to be the first overall pick.
However, according to an anonymous source, the next NHL draft could feature players that were not picked at all.
“I think McDavid, at least, is the best player in this draft,” the source said, according the Boston Globe.
“If he’s taken, he’s going to be a world-class player.
If not, it’s probably going to take him years to make it.”
The NHLPA released a statement earlier today saying that the “next” draft could have several players selected with the first round pick.
“The draft will be full of players with the same caliber of talent as McDavid and Auston Matthews.
This group is stacked,” the statement read.
“McDavid and Matthews are already playing at the highest level, and it is clear that they are ready to step up to the next level.”

The event will feature the top teams in the league and a mix of top prospects from all 50 states, with some of the highest-profile names in the sport expected to attend.
“It is going to feature some of these players that are going to go in the first three picks of the draft,” said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, who will attend the game.
“I think it’s going do a great job of getting everyone to understand what the league is all about.
They’re going to get to see some of their favourite players.”
The game will also include a “Super Bowl” style pre-game show, which will feature ESPN personality Craig Custance, former NHL star Joe Thornton, and former U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer Jim Slater.
